About Long Island House Lifting Engineers

Long Island House Lifting Engineers is well knowledgeable in NY Rising Programs we had taken all the proper courses that NY Rising offers. We can help you raise your home to keep it safe during severe storms and flooding. The first step is we conduct a soil boring test and analyze the soil conditions to see if your house could just be lifted or we need to design wood or helical piles. Then we get an elevation survey certificate using the latest datum 1988. A licensed structural engineers looks over the home for any stress cracks in the foundation or support beams to make sure your existing home is structurally sound and could withstand the house lift.

Next, we send a draftsman out to measure the entire home so we can design the house to be lifted. We have to take in consideration that there will be some more added steps to the existing front and rear stoops or decks, this could change the design and we might suggest to create a front porch to capture the new look or deck.

The advantage in lifting you home is that NY Rising is willing to pay, who knows for how long this will last. If you ever want to sell your home it would be worth more money because the new owners will not be afraid that there home could be damaged and that there home owners insurance would be decreased significantly. When you are ready please call Long Island House Lifting Engineers devision for a free consulation.

  • I would highly recommend Long Island House Lifting Engineers to anyone thinking about getting their house raised. My husband was satisifed with the lift and was very impressed how they kept our yard so clean. I love my new raised house.

    Christina Varrone, Long Beach NY

  • Long Island House Lifting Engineers was our choice to lift our 3 bedroom home in Amity Harbor. We have an overhang carport that we were very worried about and asked them to be careful with it. It turned out better than it was. The construction crew obviously knew what they were doing because they lifted it without any damage and actually made it more level in the process.

    Paul Fink, Amity Harbor

  • My wife and I got the 3 estimates like our agent told us to do, but it didn't matter. We had our minds made up after the meeting with Long Island House Lifting Engineers. They showed us their whole plan and took their time and answered all of our questions. One of the other companies was only worried about us signing right away and made us feel like we were wasting his time. We are very happy with John at Long Island House Lifting Engineers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below please find information on the topics discussed as well as the Frequently Asked Questions on those items discussed.

FAQS
House raising is the process of lifting or jacking your home higher to prevent damage from flooding.
First the home is excavated around the house to allow for holes to be made in your current foundation, then the steel beams are placed in these spots. Once the beams are placed the home is elevated hydraulically using the Jacking System. The hydraulic jacking pump synchronizes the pressure to the jacks so that the whole building will lift evenly without racking. This keeps the cracks in the drywall or plaster to a minimum and sometimes nonexistent. Typically the home is then excavated out underneath to allow for your new basement pour. On occasion, if there is enough room on your lot the home can be moved out of its current site and then transferred back to its original site. Once the new foundation is cured the home is then lowered back down and the beams are pulled.
Contractors use a Hydraulic Jacking System. This system enables one man to control the entire jacking operation. The jacks are locked together by a unified system and will lift and lower regardless of individual jack loading. Each unified jack is on a separate hydraulic system and failure in one jack will not cause pressure loss in the other jacks. This system can accommodate from one to thirty-eight hundred tons. This system is essential when making large, irregular lifts.
We need to hire a geologist who analysis the earth after receiving a soil boring this will determine if the soil needs to have pilings and a grade beam or a regular pier foundation with footing.
Yes but what your flood insurance companies offer is an ICC grant. ICC is Increased Compliance Cost. Information required when applying for ICC Grant:
  1. letter of substantial loss from Town or Village must state that home has sustained more than 50% of it's value in flood damage
  2. Tax Assessment from Town Appraiser (current house value excluding the land)
  3. Current Elevation Certificate (from a liscened surveyor)
  4. Color photos of house as is
  5. Line by line breakdown of new elevation work including foundation work and it's cost. This grant may reimburse you up to $30K. You have to pay the costs upfront and then your insurance company will reimburse you. Not everyone receives the full $30K.
The ICC grant offered by your Flood Insurance Company is a Federal backed program (FEMA). Some local governments have incentives in place in the form of additional financial assistance. Call your local Town Hall to find out what assistance is available in your area.
Yes, Fema has a height they enforce than NY State wants two feet above that. Your insurance will be reduced for every foot past that you can save 20% per foot. Example: fema says 6' state says 2' total 8' above sea level, you go 10' you will save 60% on your flood insurance.

NY Rising (CDBG-DR)

In response to Hurricane Sandy, and with the Federal Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding, New York State (the State) developed the NY Rising Housing Recovery Program along with several other Disaster Recovery initiatives as outlined in the State’s Action Plan. The NY Rising Housing Recovery Program is designed to help New Yorkers that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irene, or Tropical Storm Lee, to recover and rebuild, and, just as importantly, to stimulate economic growth in the affected communities. Assistance may be provided to address remaining unmet housing recovery needs in a variety of categories, including Home Repair, Reimbursement, Mitigation/Elevation, and Interim Mortgage Assistance. Brownie Companies team is ready to assist with all NY Rising requirements.

Assistance may also be available to owners of rental properties in the impacted regions. Receipt of funding under this program may not duplicate disaster-related assistance you have already received or may be eligible for from other Federal, State, Local and/or private sources of disaster-related assistance, including, but not limited to, Homeowners and/or flood insurance proceeds. Note that the CDBG-DR funding is intended to help New York residents meet basic livability standards, in contrast to insurance compensation that may be based on insurance costs.

Homeowners who live in the 100 year floodplain AND whose homes are substantially damaged are required to elevate their homes. They are eligible for elevation funding and an increase in their maximum benefit cap. The Program will determine Substantial Damage by:

  1. Receipt of a substantial damage letter from their Flood Plain Administrator, or
  2. Inclusion in the FEMA and/or the municipality data set indicating the home was substantially damaged, or
  3. A total damage amount (the sum of the AA and the ECR not including bulkheads or elevation but including AE fees) of greater than 50% of the pre-storm value or
  4. Reconstruction estimates using the $160 per square foot pricing model, or For those who do not fit in one of the categories above, the Homeowner can provide additional documentation such as tax records or an appraisal and the Program can review and approve on a case by case basis. For homes that did not receive a FEMA inspection and do not have a floodplain letter, the Program inspectors will assess damage and make the determination if they are substantially damaged. Homeowners in the 100 year flood plain who are NOT substantially damaged are eligible for elevation funding but will not receive an increase in their maximum benefit cap. Homeowners outside the 100 year flood plain are not eligible for elevation funding.

The FEMA programs such as HMGP and SRL are reimbursement grants. Brownie Companies will assist homeowners and contractors with all the paperwork and grant application, and Brownie Companies will aid in the progression through the grant program as you apply.

Hazard Mitigation Grant Program

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) is a Federal grant program that awards assistance to states and local governments after the occurrence of a natural disaster. Homeowners have the opportunity to elevate their homes with the help of Brownie Companies, after a declaration of a major disaster. The HMGP reduces the loss of life and property and enables preventative measures to be taken in response to the disaster.

Severe Repetitive Loss Program

Authorized by the Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2004, the Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) program is a Federal grant program that awards assistance to citizens to reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of flood damage. Those who have had multiple flood insurance policy claims, can be assisted and given a solution to elevate the structure above the Base Flood Elevation.

GOVERNMENT GRANT NAVIGATING FOR HOUSE RAISING ON LONG ISLAND

If you live in an area of Long Island that is in or close to a Flood Zone you may be eligible for one of a few flood programs that exist here in New York. The two most used and popular for Long Islanders are listed below, but other options do exist.

  • Congress enacted the National Flood Insurance Program in 1968. It was designed to offer affordable flood insurance to those who live in flood zones not only on Long Island but also across the nation. To find out if you live in a Flood Zone on Long Island visit the flood zone map for your county below.
  • The Flood Mitigation Assistance Program was created by FEMA in 1994 to reduce NFIP claims. Funded entirely by FEMA, monies are appropriated to participating states and/or communities. The funds distributed by this program are to be used for flood mitigation measures such as structural elevation (house raising) or relocation.

Regardless of which program might be right for you and your family, we here at Zucaro House Lifters, Inc. understand the problems you may be facing as a flood victim because we also grew up and live on Long Island and as such, we've had to endure the effects of Hurricane Sandy as well. We will work with you every step of the way to make sure that you get you the best possible flood mitigation and house raising results, and that you get the money that is entitled to you for your project.
